Distortion magic is exactly what it says on the tin. Distortion magic allows the user to distort already existing physical things. However, Distortion magic gets very little love in Lysos [Deafu's largest continent] due to the culture in Lysos, which outlines Distortion magic as a sort of 'unwanted force'. Historically, Orses Eye [The Distortion Magic's Eternal Being] has been very kind towards commoners, though some crooked commoners went after it. This lead to Orses Eye resorting to placing a curse on their lineage: Their lineage would no longer be able to use magic at all. They would be devoid of a soul. Word got out that this had happened, and the commoners of Lysos began to fear distortion magic.
Distort: Users are able to distort and twist any physical object. This includes living beings. Though, it is significantly harder for Distortion users to distort anything with a soul embedded in it, such as living beings, due to the soul's nature to try and protect itself at all costs. And it is harder to distort materials that are tougher to break. Great damage can be laid upon buildings, pathways or underground tunnels. Distortion magic is special because it has the ability to disable other magics, it can quite literally distort the connection between a magic user and their source.
Distortion magic has no permanent aura around its user. It instead works by firing tiny dark red bolts at that then form a small, temporary aura. In that aura is where the user will gain the opportunity to distort whatever is in that small area.
Distortion elementals are hunted down and shooed away, for this reason they're extremely rare to come by, as Orses Eye commanded its elementals to try and stay away from commoners, knowing how hated they are.
Similarly to Aura magic, a long term distortion magic user will find themselves with a warped and twisted form where they usually fire the magic from. Distortion magic will distort one's psyche over time, causing an effect known as
'Mental Illness' though, its effects are widely exaggerated, as Distortion magic is still not the most harmful Deafuian magic on the psyche, mist magic is.
Absorbing too much Distortion magic in a ritual will completely mangle your innards, you will very quickly die if this happens.
In distortion Rituals there are three commonly associated sigils:
The sigil for distortion magic itself,
The sigil for the original distortion source, Orses Eye, the Eternal Being,
& The sigil for the current distortion source, Vayll.
Distortion rituals require live sacrifices that are, ideally, small animals. Doing this ritual inside of the inklands, Distortion's Being Biome, will make the ritual much more powerful.
Distortion's Being Biome is known as The Inklands, due to the mass amount of usually warm to boiling ink that seems to replace water in these environments. This is what Orses Eye manifested as upon being assigned to
Deafu. It is a rather hostile environment, with its general heat and hot ink one could fall into. A rare kind of grass called 'Silvergrass' can be found here. It is a VERY sticky plant that mimics the look of grass.
Historically, it has been used as an adhesive.
There are many a creature in the inklands, mostly reptilians reside and survive here though such as the Dazzlemander, a venomous reptilian that should be avoided. This biome resides above & under the ground,
with its above-ground presence being the largest out of any Deafuian Being Biomes.
Distortion magic's Eternal Being is known as Orses Eye or 'The Finale'. It means no harm, as it only tries to exert its purpose. Its 'core' can be found in the Eternal Caves.
Vayll, the current and historically only Distortion magickeeper, is a calm and collected individual who has seen everything The Higherup has put their siblings through. Dead or alive. Vayll can no longer give a single shit due to how long they've lived for and how much they've seen. They seek to help Katja escape The Higherup, as they have a soft spot for her.
